Job Title: Serve Director (Full-Time)  

Organization: Congregations for Kids (CFK)  
Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid with in-office and on-site requirements)  
Reports To: Head of Programming  

Position Overview  

The Serve Director is responsible for strategically leading CFK’s Serve Pathway, overseeing all volunteer engagement, Serve events, the Socialight program, CFK’s prayer team, and providing collaborative event oversight for CFK’s major signature events. This role ensures CFK’s mission to support children and families in foster care is fulfilled through well-organized, impactful events and a strong, sustainable volunteer ecosystem.  

The Serve Director works closely with churches, community partners, volunteers, and internal staff to create meaningful engagement opportunities that align with CFK’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.  

 

Key Responsibilities  

Volunteer Management  

  • Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies with churches, community partners, and local organizations to maintain a strong pipeline of committed volunteers.  

  • Oversee volunteer scheduling, onboarding, training, and management, ensuring all volunteers are well-prepared and aligned with CFK’s values and expectations.  

  • Identify and cultivate volunteer leaders by equipping them to lead smaller teams or initiatives.  

  • Implement long-term retention strategies that keep volunteers engaged, connected to CFK’s mission, and feeling valued.  

  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive volunteer database, tracking hours, skills, preferences, and feedback to improve volunteer experiences and outcomes.  

  

Serve Event Leadership & Major Event Oversight  

  • Design and manage a yearly calendar of serve events aligned with CFK’s mission, strategic goals, and the needs of the foster care system.  

  • Oversee all logistics for serve events, including site selection, materials, volunteer roles, safety protocols, and contingency planning.  

  • Lead volunteer teams and provide event oversight for CFK’s major events, including but not limited to: We See You, Christmas in July, Merry Market, and the Socialight Drive-Thru. 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal staff to ensure major events are well-staffed, volunteer-supported, and executed with excellence.  

  • Engage with corporate and church partners to secure in-kind donations, sponsorships, and volunteer participation.  

  • Conduct post-event evaluations with staff and volunteers, capturing lessons learned and ensuring timely follow-up with participants, donors, and sponsors.  

  • Manage budgets related to serve events and major event volunteer support, ensuring fiscal responsibility and high impact.  

  

Socialight Program Oversight  

  • Lead the development and execution of the Socialight program to ensure frontline social workers receive meaningful recognition, resources, and support.  

  • Identify opportunities to expand the program’s reach and deepen its impact locally and nationally.  

  • Plan and execute Socialight appreciation initiatives, ranging from small-scale recognition efforts to large, celebratory events.  

  • Build and maintain relationships with agency leadership to ensure Socialight initiatives align with real needs and strengthen CFK’s partnerships with county agencies.  

  • Recruit and support Socialight team members and prayer partners.  

  • Track program effectiveness through feedback, participation metrics, and impact data to inform future growth.  

  • Manage the Socialight program budget responsibly and strategically.  

  

Prayer Team Oversight  

  • Manage monthly prayer team rhythms 

  • Actively recruit and grow the CFK prayer team.  

  • Prepare annual prayer team materials in collaboration with the marketing team.  

  • Oversee and facilitate CFK’s annual Night of Prayer and Worship.  

  

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Event Planning, or a related field (or equivalent experience).  

  • 3-5+ years of experience in volunteer management, event coordination, program leadership, or nonprofit operations.  

  • Passion for serving children and families involved in the foster care system.  

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience managing volunteers, teams, and/or events.  

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders.  

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.  

  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks, meet deadlines, and delegate effectively.  

  • Strategic thinker with experience setting goals and measuring outcomes.  

  • Proven event planning and execution experience.  

  • Highly motivated self-starter with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.  

  

Preferred Skills  

  • Experience working with churches or faith-based organizations.  

  • Experience in social services or the foster care/child welfare system (personal or professional).  

  • Experience with budgeting, fundraising, vendor management, sponsorships, or in-kind donations.
