In-Person Shopping FAQ
For volunteer shoppers:
Thank you for taking time to shop with a teen experiencing foster care! We understand that situations and questions may arise during the shopping experience. If your question is not answered in the list below, please feel free to text or call the Landing Platform Team at 704-901-8563.

This gift card is branded Simon but works like any debit card or gift card anywhere that accepts Visa.
It is up to the teen on how they want to use the gift card (e.g. to purchase an item that day or save for another time). The social worker should allow the teen
Typically the social worker should allow the teen to use the gift card as they wish unless there is a special circumstance.
-
The social worker should be actively shopping. This is a great opportunity for connection and for them to get to know one another.
Social workers will typically make and receive a few quick phone calls while shopping, as most shopping trips take place during the business day. This is normal.
However, if they are disengaged from the teen completely and you feel comfortable asking them to re-engage, please do so. If you are not comfortable, please text/call/email feedback to the Landing team. Your role is to navigate the mall and discounts, and pay for items.
Shopping is meant to be fun and to give a teen choice who has not been able to make a lot of decisions for themselves. Friendly input from the social worker is fine, but the decision to purchase items should be the teen.
If any type of conflict starts to arise between the social worker and teen and the social worker isn’t de-escalating, we recommend you end the shopping trip and let the social worker and the Landing team know. Our team can provide a gift card at a later date if needed.
-
If the teen is hungry, you can offer to buy them a snack if time allows with the CFK credit card.
If the teen isn’t having a good time and refuses to shop, it’s perfectly fine to let the social worker know the trip needs to end early. We can always provide a gift card so they can pick out a few items later.
-
If the color or size is not available, please ask the store associate if you can order it online. You can ask the social worker if they want items shipped to their office, or CFK, or sometimes even directly to teen if they live outside of Charlotte.
Some teens will prefer to choose another color/style because they want to bring the shoes or clothes home that day.
-
Generally, the new app will serve as our way to get store discounts.
Pull up the store on the app and show the store associate the code to receive the discount.
This should not affect the discounts we get from The Athlete’s Foot, Dillards, Dick’s, and Lucky at SouthPark Mall.
